Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s First Lady of Fashion

Maria Grazia Chiuri is an Italian fashion designer currently acting as creative director for the house of Christian Dior. Chiuri is educated in design, having obtained a degree in fashion design from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome. She launched her career in design working for high-profile Italian brand Fendi, where she was offered a job immediately. She worked at Fendi until 1999, sharpening her skill set. In 1999 she was approached by Valentino Garavani of the brand Valentino, who offered he work designing for his fashion house. She proved her talent and expertise, working her way up to creative director of Valentino. She left in 2016 to take on the prestigious role of creative director for Christian Dior. Chiuri is the first woman in Dior’s lifespan to take control of design, rightfully earning her a place in fashion history.
